Random Thoughts on a Friday
5 Selfish Things
1. My episode of Connie Martinson Talks Books was on in the San Francisco area Thursday morning, which is very cool and means that other parts of the country may eventually see me trying really hard not to look into the camera while simultaneously attempting to impress Connie.
2. The LA Triathlon is this Sunday which means...virtually nothing to me except the road closures may threaten my dance class which is down in the Wilshire/La Brea area. That would totally bum me out, much as I appreciate other peoples' interest in running, biking and swimming. I wonder how many people entered after being inspired by the Olympics.
3. Speaking of Olympics, I had an AMAZING *gold medal* celebrity sighting on Thursday morning. Check the Lite Snacks page of my website for more info.
4. I want to add knitting to the things I wish could help me earn a living.
5. Another round of thanks to all the people who entered last weekend's contests at the Page Flipper and YA Fresh. I loved every single comment that was left at the blogs and was really touched so many people were interested in winning my book.

The Olympics and Leigh - both on TV!
All right, so it's not the Olympics with a billion people watching and Michael Phelps and his gold medals but it IS television. In Los Angeles. On cable. Today.
That's right, for those of you who missed it, my interview on "Connie Martinson Talks Books" is airing again today: at 3PM and 11:30PM on Channel 35. As before it will also stream live if you want to watch on your computer. Check my website for more info on how to do that.
Meanwhile, did you see the amazing Romanian marathoner, Constantina Tomescu, who won at the age of 38? And how about Oksana Chusovitina, on the German team, who took the silver on the vault at age 33? Anyone over 25 is practically ancient in women's gymnastics. Then there's Dara Torres, the 41 year old swimmer who nearly had the gold in the 50m free and who helped her teammates get the silver in the relay -fantastic display of sportsmanship when she took it upon herself to hold the race when a competitor had a swimsuit issue.
These are athletes in their prime. Amazing and impressive. When I grow up, I want to be just like them.

Jocelyn at Teen Book Review has posted a beautiful review of ALL ABOUT VEE. I love how she describes the book and the main characters. She really captures the spirit of Veronica May. Random Thoughts on a Friday
1. My episode of Connie Martinson Talks Books will be on television again here in LA on August 18, at 3P and 11:30P! And again, if you're not in the area or don't have cable (like me!) you can watch it stream live from LA City View Channel 35. I have all the info on my website.
2. Yesterday was my first earthquake! I was in ballet class, in the middle of plies, when the floor started shaking and the lights overhead began swaying. We all sort of looked around at each other like, "What the heck is this?" The guy at my barre waltzed on over to take cover under a doorway but the rest of us just stood there. It seemed to go on forever! But when it was over, our accompanist began playing and we went right back to plies. Dancers are pretty hardcore, I guess. It's impossible to get us to give up our class.
3. Check out this thread over at Reviewer X's blog. Not just because she claims I inspired the post with my question on an earlier thread but because I think there's a lot of great information i there. I am the sort of person who hates to bug people for reviews. Sure, I have gently cajoled my readers here about posting reviews at Amazon or on their own blogs but when I send books out, I kind of try to let them go and not worry. But I do! I am always anxious about people with my books. And I have a tendency to assume people don't like them if they're not responding right away.
4. This weekend is the big national convention for the Society of Children's Book Writers and Illustrators. Although I'm not attending for various reasons, I hear it's great and lots of authors, especially local ones here in Los Angeles, are going. So if you're trying to get in touch with your favorite SoCal writer, that's probably where they are.
5. I am still totally jazzed about the new book I'm working on. Still. That's a good sign.

Random Thoughts on a Friday
1. I was on TV!! Me! I can hardly believe it! I was like, a star, for a very brief moment in time. It was really hard to watch myself at first(I can't even stand to listen to my recorded voice - yuck!) so I kind of cringed as I watched but then I tried to just sit back and imagine being a member of the audience and I didn't sound so bad after all. Hope you all got to see it but if not, it will probably go up on YouTube and on Connie's website. Check back on my own site for that info; we'll keep you updated.
2. Anyone looking for a respite from the summer heat should duck into her local theater and watch "Hancock" starring my super-crush, Will Smith. If you haven't seen it yet, it's fun but thoughtful - a very unique superhero movie that somehow manages to include all of the typical superhero conventions yet remain original. HH and I so love Will Smith that we came right home and watched our favorite scenes from both MIB movies. I would own "Pursuit of Happyness" except so much of it is way too sad.
3. Jordyn, your book is in the mail. Jordyn was the winner at Teen Book Review's blog when I was guest blogging over there in June. On Wednesday I sent her out a signed hardcover of LOVE, MEG. I hope you'll let me know what you think when you read it, Jordyn!

TV? Today? TV! Today!
Yes, today is the day I am on "Connie Martinson Talks Books"! And I'm very very excited. If you're in the LA area, it's on Channel 35 at 3 and 11:30PM (it also streams live at those times). Other markets have the show on different days and times so it's best to check your local listings or simply watch it on the computer if you can. Go to my website to this page for more info.
I am actually rescheduling a dentist appointment so I can watch it on my computer, since I don't have cable. Of course, I would probably use just about any excuse to reschedule a dentist appointment. [shudder]

What is Jetlag?
I never could understand jetlag. I mean, I get the whole body clock thing and how we are naturally predisposed to certain things at certain times of the day and when we travel to different time zones, those natural cycles get thrown off but seriously, why does it last for days?
I still have jetlag after returning from LA last Friday morning. And a cold that feels like someone has beaten my brain to a pulp.
And yet...
I am still SUPER-EXCITED about being on television! Now, I know many people don't have cable or aren't in a market where "Connie Martinson Talks Books" will be shown but never fear! You can watch online! It will stream live on your computer! My Ninja Webmaster put this together so you can find the show.
So that's tomorrow, Thursday, July 17 at 3PM and 11:30PM in the LA area, Channel 35. Or like I said, you can watch it stream live on your computer. Cool, huh?

1. Podcast followup:
What a blast I had doing the recording for the Cheshire Public Library's teen book board's podcast! Here is a photo of me with Loan Lee, my fantastic interviewer who had so many amazing questions. I won't spoil it for you by telling you what they were but I will tell you when it's available on their website. Thanks, Loan, and extra special thanks to Sarah Kline Morgan, the teen librarian at CPL!
2. Television followup:
Today I will head to the Time Warner studio in Topanga Canyon to record an interview with Connie Martinson for her show, Connie Martinson Talks Books. I can't express to you my full excitement about this! I will be in amazing company! She has interviewed, among many others, Barack Obama, Gigi Grazer, Al Gore, Gloria Steinem, Thomas Kenneally, Ray Bradbury, Lisa See and TC Boyle. Here's her site...

I have already started my brand new story which I wasn't sure I was ready for. I am so unbelievably thrilled about this one. I can't wait to immerse myself in this new world.
